“My basic role is to make sure that equipment is available to run the facility. To do that, I need to make sure that all the procedures and policies that we have in place are being followed and that I have the right personnel doing that and make sure that they are doing what we expect them to do.“

Together
“I was in the Marines for 8 years, and you would not survive if you didn’t have teamwork.
You have to develop management skills so that the people working under you are held accountable and that they are responsible and have the right training to understand what they need to do to get the job done.
When I came to shell, one of the first things I did was to establish my team by leading that team and making them understand what I was about and understanding what my baggage were.
My goal for my group is to make sure I keep it in front of them, what our real purpose is – to keep this equipment running and to keep the refinery up.”

Impact
“My work definitely has an impact. It’s one of the reasons why I came here. Shell gave me the opportunity to come over here and perform the job that I wanted to do.”

Propel
“Now I can manage my own career. I can actually decide where I want to go next and how I’m gonna get there.
I probably have 300 to 400 guys that report to me on a daily basis. I want everybody to come to work and be happy. I want you to come to work and say ‘I love doing this job’. I do that every day.
Family life in New Orleans is great. My kids love it, they wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s a good feeling.
My name is Albert Kelly, I’m a Maintenance Execution Manager at Shell Norco here in New Orleans.”

Brent on how Shell supports veterans transitioning to their new roles:
“Similar to the military, Shell realizes that the success or failure of the company depends completely on their people. With this in mind, Shell takes very seriously the well-being, satisfaction, and development of their people. Specific to Veterans, you are not alone. A massive network has been created. By tapping into our MILNET (military network organization), you are tapping into someone who has been in your exact shoes before, whether on the yellow footprints at boot camp or steel toe boots stepping into a refinery.”
